Panthers star in the Big V win last Saturday

Old Carey Grammarians Football Club’s strong history of supporting the VAFA’s representative program etched another chapter last weekend when Lachlan McQueen-Miscamble, Joel Rice, new recruit Tom Roach and Ben Smithwick all pulled on the famous Big V in the VAFA’s win over the Eastern Football League.

To add further Old Carey flavour to the day, our Director of Football Al Parton was an assistant coach on the day.

All four players played significant roles in the win and Lach was awarded the Best VAFA player from the coaching staff of the EFL. In a tight match the VAFA held a slender lead at three quarter time before a seven goal to nil final quarter saw the VAFA run out 46 point winners.

Old Carey had the equal highest representation in the team with Old Xaverians. With our skipper Cam Howat also originally selected in the squad it is a fantastic endorsement of our players and our football club.  Not only was it a great result for the VAFA defeating the EFL, but most importantly all of our players got through the game without an injury.

Now the whole club can turn it’s football focus to our Round 1 clash against Mazenod and the subsequent eight rounds before no doubt our players will be in contention for more representative honours in the mid-year rep fixtures.

Congratulations to our fab four again.
