5 rounds left and there is still plenty to play for!

Where has the season gone, 5 rounds remain before finals for some and season over for others.  As it currently stands all of our teams are well in the mix to qualify for finals so there’s lots to play for.  You can certainly tell this by the way in which the boys are training and their attitude around the club, it’s a stark contrast to this time last season where all teams were suffer from humbling losses and the pain being associated with that.  12 months on the boys are certainly in a much better space and with some much improved depth we are putting very competitive senior teams on the park each week.  It’s great to see the 2nds winning consecutive games and a genuine belief that they can win every game  The injury list has improved and several of the mid-year holiday makers have returned, refreshed and keen to re-establish their spot in the team.  As it stands we now only have 2 of our more established senior players unavailable overseas, Tim Smith and Freddie Cator.  Whilst these two would be invaluable to the teams make up and our depth we have been able to find replacements and keep the teams settled and competitive.

It was an historic occasion for the club last weekend, Shrugga’s 400 game celebrations.  With all teams at home the day couldn’t have started any better, the 3rds winning convincingly for both Shrugga and Ocka.  At the same time the 2nds never stopped believing and kicked the last 4 goals of the game to beat the better placed Caulfield, a gutsy win and sets them on a path now to aim at playing finals football.  It was all one way traffic in the seniors game, our opening quarter where we kicked 10 gaols 8 and kept Caulfield scoreless put the game beyond doubt, the boys went on to win by 140 points and register a healthy % increase.  The Unders lost out to Old Ivanhoe in a tough encounter, despite being well in the game at 3 quarter time the Unders fell away in the last quarter.  Probably a reflection on their recent commitment where too many have been unavailable due to travel and not enough at training to make the sessions valuable.  Still they sit 3rd on the ladder and are capable of much better, time will tell.

Thought you may like a sneak peak at the recent fashion parade at the Geebung, the boys very quickly warmed to the cat walk, so too the freebie CAMBRIDGE suits.  A special mention must also go to HARVEY NORMAN CLEARANCE STORE in Bridge Road Richmond, store Manager Shane Kennedy very kindly donated two quality prizes for the raffle, a colour TV and a bar fridge, so any time you need something call in and see Shane and remember to mention the Old Carey connection and Dolly who arranged the prizes.

The other highlight from last weekend was up in Cookie’s kitchen where Craig Bradley had everyone enthralled with his stories of football and life after the AFL and his children.  It was another great lunch.  Not to be outdone Cookie has again pulled the strings and this week we have DIPPER as our guest, the event is a sell-out, with 70 booked in.  SO please be on time this weekend as the lunch will be big and we will need you all seated asap.  More to come with the likelyhood of having Damien Hardwicke and Rodney Eade as guests at our two remaining home lunches, stay tuned!

   BE THERE!!!

With all 4 teams at home again it is set to be another great day of football, seniors host Fitzroy AFC whilst the 3rds play SKOB’s and the Unders take on Old Xavs.  Senior and 2nds are on Dunshea and the 3rds and Unders in Gramlick, thanks to the school for that.

With a bit of sun about and a warmer weekend predicted please come out o Carey Bulleen and cheer the boys on, there’s plenty to like about this year’s teams, who knows where we could end up.  So please be part of it now and enjoy some quality PANTHER football.
