Season 2015 now only 1 sleep away!
Like the beginning of most seasons, there is a real air of excitement around the club, excellent numbers on the track, a good number of new players, plenty of Unders and coaches keen to get underway. A good test was at this week’s selection, definite quality across all teams with a good deal of the training group playing in the 3rds on the weekend.
12 months ago we commenced the task of rebounding from relegation, bundled out of Premier A at the end of 2013, season 2014 was themed to be one where would GAIN RESPECT, 4 TEAMS ONE CLUB! It was a season of challenges with consistency a problem at times; all the same we managed to get our act together throughout the season to qualify for finals. With the end result being a GF spot, albeit a loss but rewarded with promotion back to A grade. Together with Blues this is only the 2nd time this has happened in the VAFA’s history, whereby the two relegated teams went straight back to A grade the following season.
Whilst we had serval retirements in the off season we worked hard on our recruiting and have gained several new players and a couple returning who will add a new dimension to the team. With better early depth the 2nds and 3rds are we placed and so too the Unders who now have a list of 30 plus to select from.
Looking to R1 the seniors play away to Beaumaris. Last time we played them was late in 2013 and the really put us to the sword. We are better now and ready to take them on again. Beaumaris has a vocal crowd and will be up and about so it will be a battle. The 2nds need to start well and set the pattern for the day. The 3rds are away to Fitzroy whilst he Unders take on Old Xavs at Bulleen, these will also be tough encounters.
We are organised but are desperate for more helpers, I will table this as a separate matter in the next few weeks, put simply we/I need a great level of involvement from the past players, too much is left to way too few. More on that later.
Please join us at the Geebung Saturday night to help launch our season then head to Bulleen next weekend and be part of our home game as we host the defending A grade premiers, Uni Blacks. Cookie’s Kitchen will be back in action with Michael Roach our guest speaker so book now!
I look forward to seeing you all soon.
