The Bye week is over, its time to get back on the HORSE!

After last week’s bye round for our seniors, the boys and coaches are refreshed and ready to take on this week’s challenge, a massive away game to St Bernard’s.   There are 7 rounds remaining, we are now in 4th spot by % over Old Scotch and one game ahead of St Bernard’s so we have a lot to play for.  In our earlier encounter against St Bernard’s at Bulleen we were made to work hard for a 40 point win.  Despite starting well we had to hold off a St Bernard’s 3rd quarter rally before kicking away again.

This time we play St Bernard’s at their home ground, commonly named the SNAKEPIT, whilst widely recognised as a fortress for St Bernard’s we can travel there with genuine confidence having beaten them there twice in recent years when we were in Premier B.

I am sure St Bernard’s will have learnt much since then and last week’s close loss to Xavs is a sound endorsement that they are on the improve and are a quality side.  SO it’s a must win game as we have another tough bracket of games to follow, starting with Xavs next Sunday at Elsternwick Park. Depending on results we could well be in a 3 way tussle for 4th spot and our 1st ever crack at Premier A grade finals, but that’s some way off yet.

For the record after this week’s game our run home is as follows, Old Xavs, Uni Blues, Collegians, Scotch and Trinity before finishing at home against De La.

Last week wasn’t all rest as our gallant Unders who led all day against neighbouring rivals, Old Trinity only to go down in heart breaking circumstances with 13 seconds to go.  Footy can be very unfair and if ever a team deserved a win it was our luckless Unders.  Two game ending injuries inside the 1st quarter didn’t help but despite this, Michael Ericson’s boys rallied and played some very good football.  Hopefully they have learnt much from the loss and will be ready to take on SKOB U19’s this week on Gramlick.

Congratulations to Simon Harris on his selection in the VAFA’s U19 rep side, Simon has played all year in our seniors as 1st choice ruck man.  So a chance to play u19 again would have been welcome relief for Simon, regrettably the VAFA went down to Vic Country in a high quality game.

If you are looking to stay local then venture out to Carey Bulleen this weekend as our 3rds and Unders will be there, it’s a very special day for Nick England who is set to play his 150th game and receive Life Membership, (read the attached article for more details).  Otherwise get out to St Bernard’s.

Cam Mathews Legends day is gaining momentum so if you aren’t yet on-board be quick and contact Kanga on 0413 888 396, the game is Saturday 1st September.

So get back on your horse and either venture out to the SNAKEPIT or maybe Carey Bulleen.  Regardless support load and often for our mighty PANTHERS!
