Time to plan for 2014 and beyond......
Our 2013 season is fast coming to an end and sadly so too our time in A grade. After a 3 year stint we will head back to B grade and take stock. Whilst 2013 has been a very painful experience there are some achievements this year that will hold us in good stead for 2014. We have played in excess of 40 boys in the seniors on the back of an injury/unavailable list currently at 29. On top of this we had had 8 school boys play U19 football during the term break and 9 boys have played in the club’s senior team for the 1st time.
We continue to be busy; we held a 3 hour meeting on Monday night with the coaches and our full committee to go through the player survey. The results were invaluable and the outcomes of the meeting could well define our future. For the record the nine questions asked of the playing group were:
- Do you have any comments you would like to make about the 2013 season?
- Do you have any suggestions for the club?
- Do you have any suggestions for the coaches?
- Do you have any suggestions for training?
- What team do you predominantly play for?
- Do you intend playing at Old Carey in 2014?
- What do you want to achieve from your time at Old Carey?
- Will you be available for full/partial 2014 pre-season training?
- Will you be available for the full 2014 season or are you planning on being away for part of it?
The responses from the questionnaire will be represented to the entire playing group next Tuesday night so they all can be aware of each other’s comments, expectations and commitments albeit anonymously. The comments were all constructive and have allowed us to understand the player’s motivations and areas that they believe need improvement. We will, in due course publish the results and our plans that will emanate for the process.
Last week was another steep learning curb for our two senior teams with heavy losses to Old Scotch, whilst the Unders lost a game they were meant to win. The 3rds had a no game as De La Salle had to forfeit due to a lack of numbers, amazing to think such a strong club as De La struggles with numbers too. Seems the 3rds comp is very hard to manage and keep a playing list together, usually towards the end of the season the lack of available players in the overall list inevitably places pressure on the 3rds as players are asked to play up so as to cover injuries.
Round 17 this week and we are away to Beaumaris, the team we beat earlier in the season. Beaumaris have been playing some good football lately to keep them in the hunt to avoid relegation so it should be a good game. The 2nds play a similar placed team whilst our 3rds are away to Collegians. It’s the last game of the season for our Unders and they are across the road and take on Marcellin.
The weekend continues on Sunday at the Geebung where we have the annual $6 grand in the hand raffle commencing at 1pm. Next week we are at home to De La and it will be a massive day starting with LEGENDS 4 on Dunshea at 9.30am. Get down to Beaumaris (aka Shark Park) this Saturday then join us at the Bung on Sunday and help spend someone’s winnings! And remember this, being a Panther Supporter is a lifetime commitment.
