4 rounds in - so far so good.
Having got the win over Fitzroy at Brunswick St last weekend the seniors now sit 4th on a log jammed Premier B ladder with ourselves, Uni Blues, AJAX and SKOBS all on the same points. We now return home to Dunshea to take on Old Ivanhoe who slayed the Blues dragon last weekend proving that the competition is wide open. Up until last Saturday Uni Blues had won its opening 3 games in convincing style whereas Old Ivanhoe were winless with its 2014 promotion to Premier B grade looking grim. Guess what we play them this week, so we must now prepare for an Old Ivanhoe full of confidence, we will need to play to our best, there is no doubt the Hoes will be up and about eager to take another scalp after last week’s great win.
Carey Bulleen will be busy again this weekend; the APS winter fixture is now in full flight. Adding to this are our 3 home games plus the return of our LADIES LUNCH (70 coming so far) up in the Gadsden Pavilion. Cookie has pulled his trusty strings again, this time landing former Melbourne great, Robbie Flower who will no doubt take the ladies and a few dads on a journey back to Melbourne’s former years. We are indebted to Cookie, he has not failed us with his luncheon special guest, one day I will list them all out, and needless to say we have been treated to some wonderful moments by some of the industry’s greats, with more to come in 2014.
Looking to last week’s games, with winter having arrived Saturday’s games were a bit of a slog from early afternoon as the rain set in. The seniors and 2nds played away to Fitzroy at the historic Brunswick St ground the former home to Fitzroy VFL. The 2nds played some good football but were unable to reign in Fitzroy after their 7 goal 2nd quarter. The seniors started fantastically shooting out to a good half time lead before the weather turned ugly. The wind changed and the wet came, to Fitzroy’s credit they worked themselves back into the game but not enough as we held on to our solid lead eventually winning by 5 goals. Have to feel for the 3rds coming up against a very good Old Xavs who played a blinder of a game completely dominating us. Despite this the 3rds are ready to reload and get back onto the winners list; they have played well this season and they will regroup. The mighty Unders just roll on this time thrashing Therry Penola after a 9.20am start! Those poor Unders having the pleasure of an early morning TAZ pre match address, I can hear him now!
So home this weekend with the seniors and 2nds hosting Old Ivanhoe and the Unders up against the Northern Blues. The 3rds are not on till Sunday arvo as they are playing AJAX who has requested a Sunday game for religious reasons. We will have a big turnout at our LADIES LUNCH so book now. Good news for the coaches (although it does present some selection dilemmas) is that we will get back some VFL listed players courtesy of a bye round in their fixture. Regardless with Mother’s Day on Sunday it’s an ideal weekend for the boys to put on a show for the mums!
Weather looks set to be winter again come Saturday so rug up and join us out at Bulleen as we take on the dragon slayers, Old Ivanhoe. Important games for all PANTHER teams, so we will need you all there, vocal and in numbers.
