Winners but little reward

As reported last week, we needed to rely on the footy gods in Round 17, a win for us and a loss for Old Scotch if we were going to continue to live the dream of playing finals this year.  The seniors kept their part of the deal by holding off Old Trinity however Uni Blues were no match for Old Scotch and the win by Old Scotch has now shut the gate on our finals aspirations.

The day started well for the club with the 2nds having a well deserved win.  The boys have been playing very competitive football without ultimate success, so a win was just reward for both them and Remo and his coaching staff.

Both our 3rds and Unders played across the road at Carey Bulleen. For the Unders it was going to be another challenge, playing better-placed Caulfield Grammarians.  Despite a good 1st half the boys fell away, it has been a very difficult season for the Unders as they have experienced multiply injuries and haven’t been able to play a settled line up.

The 3rds should have won based on ladder positions, it was a disappointing game for Ocka and his team, loosing to Old Trinity at home.

To the credit of the senior squad they remain committed and are setting themselves to knock off De La at home this weekend.  De La will play finals this year and have played some very good football, all the same it’s time for us to play our brand of football at home on Dunshea for the final time in 2012 and in front of our loyal supporters.

Carey Bulleen will be busy this weekend.  We will be hosting our mighty Legends as they strut their stuff in Game 3 of the Legends series.  60 former greats will be pulling on their boots and jumpers again to relive their glory days, game starts at 9.30am so make sure you get to Bulleen and egg the boys on.

It has been a long season, given pre season started last November, we continue to make in roads in establishing ourselves as quality club across all fronts.  We can be proud of the boy’s efforts in 2012 and extremely proud of their commitment.  So too our mighty coaches and support staff.

So please join us to once more this weekend, its great to have the Legends back at the club, I’m sure their customary post game lunch will be another ripper.  We will again be putting on our supporter’s lunch, this time in the grandstand overlooking Dunshea, so you will be able to enjoy an informal lunch whilst the 2nds play on the main deck.

And to close out the day, parents and supporters are welcome to join us at Sapa Hills on Glenferrie Road on Saturday night for a BYO dinner.

However, for now the season is not yet over, so get to Bulleen once more and have final look at our boys before they turn their focus to 2013, something tells me we will come back better and give a good account of ourselves in 2013, finals a must!
