Last weekend was Mother’s Day and it certainly didn't go as we had planned, seems our loyal Panther Mothers had to go home empty handed as all 4 Old Carey teams lost!  It was a long weekend’s football too, as the club had teams playing both on Saturday and Sunday care of the VAFA fixture. It was always going to be labelled as a weekend of challenges as we were fixtured to play Old Xavs, a proven A grade club with exceptional depth.

The weekend started with our newly formed 3rds up against Old Xavs 2011 3rds Grand Finalists.  Whilst the result would indicate a big loss I must praise the efforts of our mighty 3rds, I attended the game and am very proud of their commitment and never give up approach.  Playing the game without regular coach Ian England didn’t help but thanks to a great stand in effort by Matt Curry the 3rds challenged the Xavs in general play.

For the Unders it was away to Caulfield Grammarians in a testing match.  Despite the loss the Unders showed plenty when they were prepared to focus and ended up challenging in the last quarter.

The weather changed for the worse on Saturday night, such that come Sunday the VAFA HQ was slippery and waterlogged.  The 2nds played to their best and continue to improve whilst the seniors allowed a lapse in concentration in the 2nd term to make life difficult.

This weekend we get a chance for redemption, away to Uni Blues at the picturesque Melbourne Uni main Oval.

So its time to go back to UNI and see whether we can apply what we have learnt!

See you there.

Go Panthers!
