The boys are rest and ready to fire up for Shrugga

The bye round certainly gave us all a much needed break from football and the cold weather.  Especially when you realise the boys have been training since November.  So it’s back to business now, 6 rounds remaining that may well shape the clubs playing future.  I say that because we are very well poised to have 3 teams in finals, and the ball is in our court to make that happen.  At the end of the 2013 the club was at the crossroads, a terrible 2013 season in Premier A left our senior teams including the 3rds well and truly battered.  And the Unders hadn't faired much better.  It could have spelt a slide for the club as boys opted out of the club and some did.  However those that have stayed have shown Great Spirit and commitment this year under the new coaches and responded (so far) magnificently.  We are playing at the right level, Premier B and this is allowing us to heal and rebuild, the reward is going to be a crack at finals but the boys know there is still plenty of work to be done before we secure any final four spots.

So not much else to report other than to recognise some very important happens at the club:

  • We are about to have a player play his 400th game, Kelvin Shrives at the tender age of 47 is going to play that game tomorrow under 3rds coach and former team mate, Ocka.  Shrugga entertained the boys in the clubrooms last night as we roasted his time as a Panther.  He is our living legend.
  • Jack Joslin finally gets to play his 150th game, Jack was expected to play it last game but calf soreness stopped that.  Jack will become another Life Member of the club and is another true Panther.
  • Joel Rice was amongst the best for the AFL Metro combined team in its victory over their country counterparts.  This is another feather in Joel’s 2014 cap, he is having a wonderful season
  • Andrew Sloan was in the VAFA’s U19 rep side best, playing at full back Andrew held up strongly against a siege of AFL Country U19 attacks.

Cookie has done it again, this week the Kitchen will host Craig Bradley, with former Panther and recent CH10 Sports Reporter, Ian Cohen asking the probing questions.  It’s not too late to get a seat so give Cookie at call on 0428 394 198 .  Not to be outdone Cookie has locked in the big Dipper for next week’s home game where we host Fitzroy, this one will be huge so please follow the link below and RSVP.

We are all at home this weekend with all teams playing at Carey Bulleen.  The 3rds and Unders on Gramlick, taking on Old Trinity and Old Ivanhoe respectively.  Whilst the senior teams will need to be at their best against Caulfield Grammarians, teams we haven’t beaten so far in 2014.  So please join us for a fun day, a history making one as we celebrate Shrugga’s 400th and push on in our quest to secure finals spots.
